Architect Home Elevator – The Color Mistakes
Architect home elevator? Color mistake?
While these two concepts seem like they have nothing to do with each other, this is something that we have seen come up time and time again with home owners. Simply put, color is an extremely important aspect of home elevator customization, and not focusing on it enough leads to unhappy clients.
Mistake #1: Stainless Steel is Not a Color
We see this one all the time, mostly from traction lifts: the best color they have to offer is mirror-finish stainless steel.
Unfortunately, this is often quite a poor fit with homes, which do not come with lots of steel beams or finishes, the way commercial offices or public buildings might. In fact, a stainless steel sliding door often clashes very strongly with home interiors, and sticks out like a sore thumb.
For finishes like home elevator doors, we have found that clients tend to prefer glass doors. While homes may not have a lot of visible steel, but they definitely have a lot of visible glass! They also prefer a frame that matches the color of their home.
Architect home elevator need to avoid stainless steel finishes at all cost!
Architect Home Elevator Mistake #2: RAL Colors Look Cheap

We know that RAL colors are convenient. In fact, before 2017, they were used almost exclusively. Moreover, there was no better way to match a lift color with a client’s interior design colors.
But RAL colors come with two big disadvantages.
First, the only available finish is glossy. Forget a premium matte feel, or a rougher coated finish – your only choice is going to be glossy. And unfortunately, that’s often not what clients want.
Second, RAL colors are ubiquitous. You can find them on everything from AC units to refrigerators and basic items like fans. Furthermore, the choice of an RAL color automatically cheapens the look and feel of the lift, and leads to instant customer regret.
The Solution: Premium Powdercoats
These are the holy grail of colors. Therefore, starting in 2017, a few lift companies had the idea to offer colors that would highlight a customer’s interior. This would give a truly luxurious feel to their products. Thus, it creates a difference so big with RAL colors that clients could simply touch a lift and go “Wow”.
Premium Powdercoats come in three main ranges:
- Luxury Matte: if you want a jet black home lift, or one that seamlessly blends into your wooden interior, then the matte range is for you. It feels like a luxury car to the touch, with a little bit of rugged grain edge to it.
- Diamond Sparkle: shine a light on a diamond sparkle color and a constellation of stars shines back. It is not uncommon for customers to add a few spotlights pointing toward their home lift after choosing this finish. This makes the sparkles more apparent. A gorgeous finish.
- Rare Metallic: gold, bronze, platinum, even rose-gold – we have them all. For the clients who want a lift that truly shines, there is the rare range of metallic finishes. Unsurprisingly, our Roman Gold is and will always be a best seller!
And while photos are nice, they never do these colors justice. Don’t hesitate to reach out to lift companies. Most are usually happy to bring you their sample books to see the colors for yourself. Just like a client, a simple touch is all it takes to go: “Wow. This quality is something else.”
